Special to The Enterprise

There were no tricks, only treats, at the Davis Odd Fellows Halloween costume party Saturday night. That's where Jim Provenza, an Odd Fellow and president of the Davis Board of Education, presented a $20,000 check to Suicide Prevention and Crisis Services of Yolo County from the Long Charitable Trust.

The Davis Odd Fellows sponsor fund-raisers to fulfill their mission of providing community support and charitable giving. Provenza has volunteered for the past several years to assist The Long Charitable Trust by identifying worthy recipients for financial support. He wrote the grant for Suicide Prevention.

"Suicide education and prevention is particularly important for young people in their adolescent and teen years," Provenza said. "We are pleased to assist Suicide Prevention of Yolo County to provide these vital services."

John Geisler, president of Suicide Prevention, replied, "Economic downturns always impact nonprofits first. These funds give additional stability at a time of great need."

More than 100 people, including officers of both Odd Fellows and Suicide Prevention, attended the Halloween fund-raising event.

Suicide Prevention provides crisis prevention and intervention, education and community outreach services to residents of Yolo County. To find out how you can help, call 756-7542. If you need crisis services, call the crisis line at 756-5000.
